| General Commentary:
The "Get It Together" coalition that includes such groups as BOMA and AIA has indicated the construction industry is interested in establishing one family of codes, but does not have a preference which organization publishes such codes. If a code organization other than ICC was selected to publish a family of building codes, regulators may not continue to have a majority vote, and a "balanced committee" consensus concept with regulators having a one-third vote is possible. Another topic of discussion was the relative advantages of changing the current code amendment cycle to eighteen months, with the ICC Convention to be held each three years. Linda Haines, City of Downey Building Official and CALBO 1st Vice President, reported on CALBO issues. At the recent ABM, CALBO members passed a Resolution expressing support for adoption of the International Codes. Steve Mitchell, City of El Cerrito, is coordinating CALBO's efforts to promote building official participation in code adoption discussions at the May 24 Building Standards Commission meeting in Sacramento. John Cheng, Vice-President, reported that the April 25 Los Angeles Basin Chapter Seminar at the City of Burbank Fire Training Center was a success, with 63 persons attending. Feedback sheets indicate the attendees enjoyed the "Disabled Access for Tenant Improvements" presentation by instructor Isam Hasenin, P.E., CBO, Plan Review Supervisor, City of San Diego. The target date for the next LABC seminar is late May.
Adjournment: The April Business Meeting was adjourned by President Carol Jacobson at approximately 1:45 p.m. Respectfully submitted, Rick Becker, Secretary
